fine line reacting and over reacting. we begin with noel walker on redwood road where all of this started after a man was spotted shoplifting. noel. >> reporter: frank, oakpd said they had no reason to doubt what witnesses said they saw what happened yesterday afternoon. so police sprang into action with a frantic search and an amber alert for a missing girl we now know is adult. what a difference a day makes. oakland police went from announcing amber alerts on the sky to freeway signs to this tonight, we believe that car jacking and kidnapping did not occur. >> no kidnapping, no car jacking, and no need for an amber alert

amber alert. >> as soon as we learned this investigation went in another direction we immediately contacted the highway patrol and asked them to remove amber alert. in a new development tonight, law enforcement picked up roy mccamey who they call a person of interest but stopped short of identifying him as the man seen in the store and in a head spinning turn of events, the two people thought to have been car jacked may now be suspects instead of victims. >> we're looking at all three people who may be responsible for committing some crimes. all do know all three know each other, something police did not know yesterday afternoon in that safe way lot. police still want to identify and talk to the woman who was in that car. now, you remember yesterday witnesses said she looked to be

>> new video -- two255 children. and on south 23 rd street, firefighters were call to the apartment building where they found a man's body inside the door inside on the second floor. it appears an electrical issue may have started the fire and they say it does not appear to be suspicious. we now know the identity of a pedestrian who was struck and killed by a car on san francisco's banus avenue today. it happened just before 1 a.m. a toyota struck and killed a man as he tried to cross near specific. the victim was thrill-year-old paul 35-year-old paul lambert of san francisco. police arrest arrested the driver, 27-year-old hussain of emeryville. witnesses appointed him out as he was walking away from the

scene. he was booked on fell ne hit-and-run -- felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter. as rob ross found out, there is no shortages about ideas of what to do. the question is, when will changes be made. >> van mess avenue, some people call it, the city seems to agree the city identified the six-lane freeway as a high injury corridor. 84 accidents involving pedestrians between 2008 and 2013. that doesn't include the three people killed here this year alone. the elderly and disabled complain the crossing lights are too short. some blame drivers. >> most often i see people running the red light. so until that's not happening anymore then people are still

as people back east are facing another powerful winter storm. at sfo, delays of upon up to 45 minutes because -- of up to 45 minutes because of all the snow up in the east. 3,600 flights have been canceled, many out of atlanta, and tomorrow is expected to be another rough day for travelers. this latest storm knocked out power to more than half a million people. in atlanta, downtown looked pretty much like a ghost town. schools closed and a lot of people avoided the roads after lessons learned when traffic was paralyzed during a snow storm two weeks ago. in north carolina, it was a different story. many driverings got stuck on snow -- drivers got stuck on snow and ice covered roads. one driver said he didn't expect the conditions to get so bad so quickly. hundreds of people gathered

at uc berkeley for an emotional vigil for the football player who died last friday. the medical examiner has not yet announced the cause of death. jana katsuyama was there where they honored him tonight. jana. >> reporter: julie, it was a somber, but hopeful ceremony. ted poured the heart into the sport he loved and tonight, his friends and family did the same for him at uc berkeley. grace, a gentle soul, a smile that lit up a room and made others smile. those were the others used to describe ted. so deeply missed as hundreds came to grief and pulled together for the cal junior. >> he was always lifting someone up and so caring and we learned that from ted and we're going to

breaking news from oakland, four people were shot in the 1,400-block of 37th avenue at international boulevard about 9:50 tonight. reports say two victims are male and two are female. no word on fatalities. one of the women was taken to highland hospital with gunshot wounds to her legs. if we get more information we'll let you know.

on happening now, pride on display at san francisco city hall. it was ten years ago the first same-sex marriage was performed there. that transformative day and the months followed is being remembered as the month of love, and how folks are marking this anniversary. >> reporter: ken we've seen quite a bit of this tonight, people taking pictures of city hall in rainbow colors to mark this ten-year anniversary and a ceremony inside some say that it felt like it has been a long ten years. others say so much has changed in what feels like a blink of an eye. walking down the rotunda steps hand in hand, two key figures in the march to marriage equality, newsom and lyon. ten years ago, he ordered the clerk to issue same-sex marriage

protestors gathered outside a building on alston way in berkeley tonight where 31-year-old moore died while in police custody. police marched in the street blaming berkeley for her death. officers responded to her apartment after police restrained her. the killing of a 3-year-old girl in napa is sparking residents there to take action. we have more how one woman wants
